Judge Kocurek:  Why Would Anybody Want to Harm Her?

By Lynn A. Granata

The Honorable Judge Julie Kocurek was appointed by then Texas Governor George W. Bush in 1999, to the 390th Criminal District Court of Travis County, Texas.

The Honorable Julie Kocurek
Update:  As of November 10, 2015, a suspect is in custody and being questioned about his involvement.  The suspect it is believed was scheduled for a hearing this week, to make a determination whether he should be sent back to prison for a fraud charge.

Julie Kocurek wasn't shot, but she suffered injuries from flying glass from her car and shrapnel and is expected to make a full recovery.

Last night around 10:15 pm in the evening she was returning home accompanied by a couple of friends.  She was in her driveway when her neighbor heard what sounded like 4 popping sounds. Julie was shot, and luckily she wasn't badly injured.  Police are investigating the circumstances which may or may not have lead up to these events.  In recent years, it's been said that she became outspoken on sensitive issues as a superior court justice.  She oversaw the rights of indigent defendants who couldn't afford a lawyer.  Because Texas' Department of Criminal Defense had a lack of good attorneys to represent a defendant who was unable to afford a lawyer. She was appointed as a Republican who then switched over to a Democrat around 6 or 7 years ago. No suspects were captured, but the Texas Police won't stop at nothing until there is an arrest.  There is a massive manhunt taking place presently. Whatever happened is quite serious, may our prayers for Judge Kocurek be for a speedy recovery and the timely capture and arrest of the sicko who would dare to do this cowardly act.
